What I need to say when someone wants to build an App

Hold the phone... I have an idea, build an App that figures out if an App idea is either crap or already been done.

Call it the "Is it Crap App"

It's a new year. I've decided brutal honesty is the way to go.

Having recently been roped into developing an App. Here's the real deal. Most Apps will become obsolete because our personalized settings which are built in the platforms of our browsers and device operating systems will perform 90% of what Apps deliver today.

Let's face it

There's WAY too many Apps out there People don't want ANOTHER crappy App As soon as you download an App, it needs an UPDATE Google has it out for Apps in general. This indicates certain death. The App Store Developer Review Process is Judge Judy when it comes to your App ever seeing a public download.

Check this from the App Store Developer Review Guidelines;

"We have over a million Apps in the App Store. If your App doesn't do something useful, unique or provide some form of lasting entertainment, or if your app is plain creepy, it may not be accepted."

Apple decides what's useful and creepy. Go figure...

Best have a full read of Apple's guidelines before you consider your App idea to be a 'winner'.

Quality App development is expensive.

Just ask REDspace, in Sunnyside Mall. REDspace is growing at an exponential rate because they get paid the big bucks for high quality services for clients like Nickelodeon, CBC & IBM. Jump over and take a look at their projects and you'll get a feel for a consumer App that's worth creating.

It's 90% entertainment based.

The bottom line is if you have the budget and time to develop a digital asset that enhances engagement with your market... spend it on making your website awesome and a solid digital marketing strategy.

Don't build an App of your own. Advertise your business in Apps that your market actually uses on the daily, like the Weather Network App.

Most Apps are purely for entertainment. Apps that are built to be useful, have to be REALLY useful. Most Apps are purely for entertainment. Apps that are built to be useful, have to be REALLY useful.
